This weekend has been a good one got alot of sewing done which has made me very happy. I made two of the tea dresses from the sewing bee book. Didn’t take long and very pleased with the end result
There has been a distinct lack of posts from me. It’s not that I haven’t been busy making I have but… I have also been swept away with work and ….the wedding so maybe it’s time I share some of the things I’ve been up to. Recently I have been mostly sewing 🙂 This tea dress is fro the sewing bee book. I’m planning to work my way through all of their patterns such an amazing and exciting book to work with!
Lately, I’ve been finding that I’m more settled and confident in a project if I pick and fabric first and then decide what I want to make. Does anyone else work this way? I’d been struggling before when I wandered around Mandors with a pattern not sure what to buy. Which in my mind would be the logical order that things would be done. Although I’m sure that’s something I need to work on… any excuse to go fabric shopping.
I did manage to find some bargain liberty print in Goldhawk Road during a recent trip to London. I wish I’d bought ALOT more fabric but I got just enough to get a tunic top (also from the great british sewing bee book) and a skirt which was an attempt at a basic pattern draft one very hungover afternoon (and not bad at all I might say for a first attempt)
I’ve got a stack of patterns I’m wanting to work my way through…might need another trip to Mandors soon …
One day I’d love to be making some stunning gowns Jenny Packham style .. I’m a long way off that though
As if life wasn’t busy enough just now with the wedding and work. Martin says I love a challenge!! I’m also getting back into the swing of craft fairs in July more to follow soon…
Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE nothing more than being busy be it work or hobbies (less of the work these days though….) Martin has warned me on many occassions on my overdoing it I’m my own worst enemy sometimes. I have more hobbies than I have fingers or toes and I seem to be more of a jack of all trades and master of none but still along the way I’ve met some awesome like minded people who have become good friends. Since finishing the PhD I’ve been things off my list of stuff I want to try. I figure nothing can be as hard as the PhD was… but one thing has always remained quite intimidating….. Photography….and by that I mean real photography. I’m totally in love with Instagram which can basically make any old photo look half decent. However, it has it’s limits and with the different projects I have ongoing having the ability to take half decent pictures would be an asset.
So having been gifted an awesome Cannon 350D by Martin I have been feeling rather guilty by not doing very much with it. Photography is very intimimdating its not a sketch and rub it out until you get it right or keep glueing bits on top it will be fine ……eventually effort. It’s something I’ve always believed takes alot of technical know how….which I don’t have.
Lucky for me this camera came with a Beginners Photography Class with David Kane Photography. This course was ideal for me and was immediately geared towards getting you capable of shooting in manual mode and learning basics you should consider for composition of your photos. A heavily technical and intimdating subject was delivered in an easily accessible and relaxed environment and many thanks to the professional model on the day also! I’ll definately be booking up for more classes. I’m looking forward to getting out and about this weekend and getting some more photos!
Literally … It’s been another week of failed experiments and things not moving as quick as I want them too….Totally frustrated with work just now. When all else fails make something pretty… I’ve been experimenting with magnetic makeup boards pretty and functional… more to follow 🙂
I haven’t spoke about tea at all on the blog so far …unusual as lately it seems to be all my spare time is taken up by between orders and new designs. Starting at the begining of last year with heart shaped tea for Valentines day which proved so sucessful I tried to spin out the idea further expanding on designs and flavours slowly throughout the year. We’ve been doing craft fairs throughout the year which have been quite varied. Some have been exciting with ALOT of interest and enthusiasm for our product which in turn makes all worth while but other have been quite deflating… However, I think there is enough interest to warrant expanding further with a product which I feel is pretty different to that usually seen at craft fairs. But right now I just don’t know how … What can I do beyond craft fairs ? Until I have a brain wave I’ll keep working on new products for our range
This is one of my favourites it got snapped up on the website after it had been on for only a few days !
So I’ve been on and off learning to crochet. One main reason for it being so on and off is my lack of available hook when the notion takes me….
Don’t be fooled … that face says take it at your peril….
So I was in the mood to make something tonight that was quick, had no pattern, served a purpose, was pretty and helped me get organised and…. used up some of the fabric I have been stock piling. Mostly so I don’t feel so guilty the next time I’m in Mandors 😀 It took me about 30 mins in total and it’s very rough around the edges but I’m quite happy with it.
